There are many renewable energy sources. These include the sun, wind energy, biomass energy, geothermal power, water and even geothermal. These sources of renewable energy are all free and unlimited. Renewable energy is vital in combating climate changes because fossil fuels contribute a lot to the greenhouse gases that cause global warming.
Biomass refers to converting organic materials such wood, grasses or other plants into electric power. This process is much cleaner and more efficient than burning fossil fuels. Additionally, biomass can produce power at a fraction of the cost of fossil fuels. Biomass is a common source of renewable energy because it does not emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which contributes to global warming and climate change.
Renewable energy sources can have an environmental impact
Renewable energy has many environmental benefits, both for the environment and people. Massive carbon dioxide emissions are caused by fossil fuel-dominated electricity production. 40 percent of America's total energy-related greenhouse gases emissions are due to electricity generation. China's electricity generation produced just over 2 billion tons of CO2 in 2007. In addition to CO2, fossil-fuel combustion also produces other air pollutants such as NOx and sulfur dioxide. These pollutants are very toxic and contribute to pollution. They also exert pressure on water resources.
Renewable energy sources are not only able to reduce pollution and emission, but also help increase economic growth, create jobs, as well as decrease poverty. The world will have half its energy needs from renewable energy by 2050. This is an enormous number, and it represents more than 140 times global energy consumption. Germany's renewable energy industry is an example of a success story, with employment increases of up to 55% since 2004.
Public opinion about renewable energy sources
According to a new survey, most Americans prefer renewable energy sources over fossil fuels. But opinions differ depending on which party you are. Democrats generally support government regulation to promote renewable energy development, while Republicans prefer the free market to drive the transition. Regardless of party, public opinion on renewable energy sources shows that most people support renewable energy as a way to offset the use of fossil fuels.
The study showed that 72 percent of national respondents thought renewable energy sources were favorable and 78% considered them undesirable. The number of respondents who do not know much about renewable energy sources was significantly higher than for oil and nuclear.
